Kia ora e te whānau;
The government has made a series of announcements recently about their intentions in the education space. This week they released their new Parent Portal. The portal aims to draw together into one place resources and links to help parents better understand the pathways through education from preparation for entering school as a new entrant to NCEA.
At Green Bay High School the term is up and running - and jumping, and dancing, and shooting and all other manner of exciting verbs.
The Production auditions have been fabulous as musicians, dancers and thespians are giving their all trying to catch the eye and the ear of our Performing Arts team. It is a long period of preparation that they all have in front of them. Behind the scenes sets are being planned, hammers and nails are being readied. Elections around the world have grabbed the attention of our media, with Mark Carney and Anthony Albanese having good weeks. Locally we are excited to unveil a new political figure from our Green Bay High School student body. Adi Shirlal has been selected as the representative for the New Lynn electorate in the upcoming Youth Parliament. There have been Youth Parliaments in New Zealand since 1994 and members of these bodies have become MPs and Ministers in ‘the real thing’ - so Adi Shirlal may be a name to keep an eye on in the media in future years.
We’ve been lucky with the weather this week on the sports sidelines and it has been a pleasure to see our students performing with brio in netball, badminton, hockey, basketball and football. Juniors and seniors, inside and out - it’s been a good week so far and here’s to a continuation of that. And for those who were wondering about the outcome of the game previewed last week? The Greens did prevail last Saturday morning!
