Know exactly what your child is learning, why it's important, and when they'll be learning it.

The Ministry of Education has launched a new online tool to give parents greater access to what their children are learning at schools or kura in New Zealand from new entrants to primary school to when they leave their secondary school. It will include information about settling into school, how they are progressing against the curriculum, and how to support them at home.

This “Parent Portal” is designed to provide an easy-to-understand year-by-year guide. Parents, caregivers and whānau can access information, resources and guides on the New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, including resources such as practical videos, assessment activities, and resources to support learning - empowering whānau to take a more active role in their child’s education.

  • Year-by-year Curriculum Learning Guides: parent-friendly versions of both The New Zealand Curriculum and Te Marautanga o Aotearoa, detailing what children are learning, why it’s important, and when they’ll be learning it.
  • Practice activities: activities that parents and whānau can use to support their child’s learning at home, such as phonics cards with audio files to model correct sounds.
  • Informative videos and resources: videos explaining new assessments like the Phonics Checks and Hihira Weteoro, which help identify additional support a child might need, and resources to help parents prepare for the first day of school and parent-teacher interviews.

The Parent Portal will be regularly updated with the latest information. This ensures that parents and whānau will always have access to the most current information about what their child is learning.

As the national curriculum continues to be updated and implemented in all schools and kura over the next few years, more resources and supports will become available for parents, caregivers and whānau. We encourage you to become familiar with the MOE Parent Portal by regularly visiting the new webspace and checking out current resources, guides and videos. The MOE Parent Portal can be accessed HERE

Please note: the MOE Parent Portal is a separate platform, and does not replace GBHS’s Parent / Student Web Portal. The GBHS WEB PORTAL allows you to check Attendance, notify the school of an absence or appointment, view Reports and Results, book Parent/Student/Teacher conferences online, view daily Timetable and Notices, and upcoming Calendar events etc.
