Awards Breakfast
Year 12 students Mohamad Mansour and Disumi Nanayakkara Wasam Hapugalage were selected to attend the Emerging Ethnic Leaders' Breakfast awards this morning, held at the Waipuna Conference Centre.
Nominated by teachers, Disumi and Mohamad are certainly worthy recipients, as can be seen on their certificates, which state the following:
"Disumi is an absolutely delightful young woman whose unassuming kindness and natural inclination to support others make her a truly exceptional leader. Highly articulate and exceptionally hardworking, she has demonstrated an outstanding commitment to her school and cultural communities throughout 20626. Her leadership was on full display at the Unitec Leadership Diversity Day, and she has been a driving force behind the Sri Lankan Performance Group, the Debate Club, the Dance Showcase, and the Cultural Council. In addition to serving as a Student Librarian, raising funds for the 40 Hour Challenge and a welcoming buddy for new Sri Lankan students, her dedication extends well beyond our school. She spends every weekend volunteering at a local op shop and successfully leads at Mixit, proving herself to be a compassionate, selfless, and inspiring emerging ethnic leader."
"Mohamad is an enigmatic and naturally charismatic young man who commands respect through his quiet leadership, integrity, and deep commitment to serving others. A natural mentor, he willingly gives his time to guide and support Year 9 students who need extra direction, drawing people to him with his warm, approachable personality. His dedication was heavily highlighted during the school’s Shave For A Cure event (2025) utilising his skills from his part-time barbering job, Mohamad workd tirelessly with immense professionalism to tidy up the hair of students who had shaved their heads, Beyond his school service and his valued support for those around him, Mohamad demonstrated outstanding work ethic andinitiative during his Gatewa mechanic placement, earning glowing feedback from his employer. Invited to attend the Unitec Leadership Diversity Day as a recognised leader, Mohamad consistently exemplifies the values of a dedicated, hardworking, and selfless emerging leader."
