Art History Tour

GBHS's senior Art History students took part in a walking tour through Auckland's CBD and the Auckland City Art Gallery recently, as part of their assessment standards worth 8 credits.
02ARH students selected three to six different artworks/buildings to research and consider their own personal response to these works. Students investigated the impacts these works have on the physical environment and location.
03ARH students also saw Early Modernist Artworks in ‘the flesh’ as part of the Cezanne to Picasso exhibition (which are from the art period they are studying). This will support their external exam preparation.
Students gained an understanding of how and why artworks are made within their own City by experiencing different environments and contexts in which artworks are owned and publicly displayed.
Works of art need to be seen in their real context and environment. Public artworks are site-specific and the size and scale of each artwork are important. This EOTC trip allowed students to view artworks they had only previously viewed online or via workbooks.
