Kia ora e te whānau;
As we head into the final days of Term 1, it’s clear that we’ve packed a lot into these first few months of 2025. Term 1 can be a challenging time as students settle into new year levels and adjust to the ‘step-up’ in academic expectations. Most senior students have now completed their first NCEA assessments, and I’ve been so impressed by the hard work being put in and the strong results being achieved right across the school.
For any students needing extra support, there are several great options available. Peer tutoring is offered through the Academic Council, and subject-specific workshops are run by Faculties. The best first step is to talk to either the subject teacher or Dean, who can help point you in the right direction.
A huge congratulations to our Head of Languages, Nicole Polke, who has been awarded an all-expenses-paid trip to the IDT International Language Conference in Germany this July. Nicole is also the President of the German Teachers’ Association, and this is a well-deserved recognition of her outstanding contribution both at Green Bay High School and to German language education nationally.
Today marks my last day before heading off on sabbatical. While I’m beginning to feel excited, there’s still a long list of things to get through before I go! I’m sorry to miss the drama performances, concerts, and the first few winter sports games of term 2 - not to mention my chats with students around the grounds and at the bus bay. I’ll be thinking of you all and look forward to reconnecting in Term 3.
Have a great weekend.
