Class of 2026 with matt

It’s been an archetypal mid-term week here at GBHS. So much to report on from the first part of the term, so much up and running, so much to look forward to.

Our termly hui are up and running, with our migrant group meeting at school this week. Student feedback, hopes and dreams, performance showcasing pride in cultural backgrounds and staff sharing where we are and where we are going as a school. It was a wonderful evening with lots of families participating. And we look forward to our upcoming Whānau and Pasifika hui and hearing from even more students and families.

Aa always, at school there are great things going on in our classrooms and success in the first NCEA assessments of the year have set many of our students on their 2026 pathway with a solid start. But we know that learning for our students happens outside the classroom as well as within the walls of the school. So much has been going on - for classes, teams and individual students. Please take the time to read the articles about all the wonderful things that Green Bay High School folk have been getting into. We are very proud of what students have been doing - including Daiki Phipps, Matias Ureta and Jack Hansen all representing New Zealand in their chosen sports.

Please take advantage of the opportunity to talk with our teachers about your children at the upcoming PSTs. We firmly believe that we are all part of the same team to help the young people in our school community to get the best out of themselves and out of their time at school. The three-sided conversation of Parent Student Teacher conferences allows that clarity to be there for all involved in charting that path through school. It is great to talk to all of our students and yes, to hear the positives. But it is so very important to talk with us about challenges and difficulties - and come up with strategies and approaches to manage these situations.

The rest of the term looks busy: internal assessment completion, trials for winter sports, community events such as the Blood Drive and Relay for Life, Kawhe and Kōrero careers planning and university presentations. Lots done, lots still left to do.

All the best,
Chris Woodward
