Oaklynn Satellite Classes

te aratika

Green Bay High School is the home base for Te Aratika, four satellite classes of students from Oaklynn Special School.

Te Aratika classes are located in 'L-Block', with fully accessible purpose-built facilities. Te Aratika provides supported learning for students who have specialised learning needs and who have met the requirement for Ongoing Resourcing Funding - ORS funding.

Using the New Zealand Curriculum and an Oaklynn developed curriculum, teaching is responsive to individual needs and learning styles. One of the pathways for learning is SPEC, South Pacific Education Courses which addresses the New Zealand Curriculum through the Key Competencies and works towards a Level 1 qualification on the NZQA framework.

The “satellite class” system enables students to have access to regular school life while being taught and supported by specialised teachers and therapists. Students are based in Te Aratika and access integration opportunities and school facilities whenever possible. Te Aratika has an open door philosophy towards students and staff from Green Bay High School. Diversity is a very real part of New Zealand society and the Green Bay High School / Oaklynn partnership creates opportunities for both parties to develop learning and understanding of each other.

Oaklynn School has satellite classes at 11 local primary and intermediate and high schools, and a Tertiary facility, OakTEC, for students aged 18-21 situated in New Lynn.

We also have 7 classes at our Base School-Te Piringa in Mayville Avenue, New Lynn.
