Kia ora e te whānau; It’s been a fantastic week at school, and the weather has certainly helped. The Rounders’ tournament provided some mid-week fun for our Year 9 students, and it was great to see students (and staff) having a great time and learning physical and social skills while they were at it.
I was able to get out and see a range of teams starting their winter season of sport this week and yet again we have increased the number of teams competing due to the demand from students. We are trying to make it as easy as possible to keep up to date with draws and results published on our school Facebook, SchoolBridge App, and included in our weekly newsletters. Please get in contact with the Sports Department (phone 817-8173 ext 233) if you need any information, or you want to support in any way.
Unfortunately, as many of us are aware, there have been several recent incidents of antisocial and violent behaviour in the wider community. Working together gives us the best chance of making our community a safer place and I am always grateful to the people who make contact with us to share information or concerns. We have really good relationships with the surrounding secondary schools and with our local police and it really helps when we work together and share information. Please read the article below about staying safe in our community and some upcoming events we’ll be hosting at GBHS. Get in touch if you have any questions or concerns.
Have a great weekend.

Staying Safe in the Community
Kia ora e te whānau, Recently some of our students have experienced threatening and violent behaviour while out and about in the community. Safety of our young people is a top priority and this week, our form teachers have reinforced these safety messages from the NZ Police:
Have an awareness of your surroundings… Walk in pairs or groups whenever possible Walk in well-lit areas and where others are around - especially as it is getting dark Leave at least one ear free of headphones to hear vehicles/persons…
