Staying Safe in the Community
Friday, 10th May 2024 at 8:29am
Kia ora e te whānau, Recently some of our students have experienced threatening and violent behaviour while out and about in the community.
Safety of our young people is a top priority and this week, our form teachers have reinforced these safety messages from the NZ Police:
- Have an awareness of your surroundings…
- Walk in pairs or groups whenever possible
- Walk in well-lit areas and where others are around - especially as it is getting dark
- Leave at least one ear free of headphones to hear vehicles/persons approaching
- If you are feeling worried, unsafe or nervous – to go to the nearest place where there are people
- Consider taking photos or noting registration plates
- Dial 111 and ask for Police (no credit required for emergency calls)
Please support your whanau to be safe with extra vigilance. Be aware of when practices and games finish so that arrangements can be made for students to get home safely.
If you’d like to take further steps, HERE is more information from the NZ Police.
