Thank you for your support last Friday, as we closed the school due to water issues. Thank you also for your patience as we worked through the process of obtaining caregiver permission, and sending our 1950 students home for the rest of the day. Watercare has rectified the issue over the weekend and school is open today.
Over the past few weeks I have been reminded again of how generous and community-minded our students and whānau are.
On Tuesday we hosted our school Blood Drive, with students and staff donating blood to help people they will likely never meet. During Carnival Day our Houses raised funds for VisionWest, which supports families in our local community, while our GBHS Student Volunteer Army has been out this week supporting Fair Food. In the coming weeks many students and staff will also take part in Relay for Life, raising funds for cancer research and support services (a shout-out to Elliot Coleman, currently the top Auckland individual fundraiser).
What stands out across all of these moments is the willingness of our students and whānau to contribute to something beyond themselves. That same spirit has been evident in the strong turnout at the three hui we have held over the past fortnight. These gatherings have provided an opportunity to listen, share ideas, and work together on what matters for our school. When people give their time, energy, and voice in this way, it strengthens the sense that we are part of one connected community.
Thank you to everyone who has contributed, participated, and supported these initiatives. It is these small acts of generosity and connection that make our school such a special place.
I’m really looking forward to seeing many of you at the PSTs taking place this week.

PST Conferences
Parent / Student / Teacher Conferences (2026) Parent, Student, Teacher Conferences for Years 9 to 13 are usually held twice a year and provide an opportunity for parents, students and subject teachers to discuss progress, achievement and individual needs. As the name suggests, students are expected to attend and participate. This is a great opportunity to strengthen relationships that support our students, and you, our families and whānau.
