Shaping our Kaupapa:
Over the past few weeks we have welcomed many members of our community into our school for our termly hui. Both new and returning families were welcomed and connections were made.
The key focus of our hui are to strengthen relationships and listen to whānau voice to work together to best support our tauira.
Our first Whānau Hui of the year was a wonderful evening of connection, kōrero and community. Our Whānau Hui now in its fifth year continues to grow as a space where whānau and staff help shape the kaupapa together. The first focus for the year was Raranga – exploring the whakapapa and pūrākau of Pā Harakeke/Kōrari and the connections it holds for our community.
Te Rōpū Manawa Kuaka (Migrant Connections) Hui was well attended and connections were made across many of our families from different cultural backgrounds. A highlight was our student speakers IIlyas Naushad, Disumi Nanayakkara Wasam Hapugalage and Aisha Naushad and a performance from Lingxuan Hong
At our Pasifika Hui we heard from Y13 students Benji Godsmark, Sammi Keleti and Thoramei Resture about leadership opportunities, they also encouraged students to get involved in what is on offer. Thoramei shared how she has set up a student-led Pasifika Performance group who meet twice a week to learn about Cook Island dance. The group already has fifteen members and is growing. Any interested students are encouraged to get in touch with Thoramei.
Across all of our hui our principal Fiona Barker also introduced the key priorities from our Strategic Plan, highlighting our commitment to strong relationships across our kura, supporting students to grow in confidence and positive social connections, and encouraging consistent attendance so every ākonga can thrive.
All of the hui were a celebration of our community and the connections that we are committed to growing.
Ngā mihi to everyone who joined us to begin the year together. We look forward to more hui, learning and connection throughout the year.
