Liquid Sunshine
Kia ora e te whānau; This has been a busy week and a wet week. It has been a challenge to dodge the showers and the lightning at times, but so many things have been going on at Green Bay High School and beyond.
The first of our Year 10 Leadership in Action camps happened this week with students braving the bush in early winter. The temperature was actually slightly above average for their camp - although I am not totally sure that fact was fully registered by our intrepid trampers. A foggy and damp morning call then transformed into real rain for the final part of their journey. But their comments, once they got back to school to lay out and dry off their equipment, were almost universally positive - even if there were a few bruises and blisters on show.
Mud seemed to be the theme for our footballers and our rugby players this week - and even our Prem netball team suffered from the wet weather when their game was called off at quarter time due to an unsafe slippery court. I feel that the outside netball players and spectators could also tell some tales of struggling with water on the playing surface too.
In this week's newsletter you can read about the various Education Outside the Classroom opportunities, giving everyone a glimpse into the ways that our staff provide a rich educational experience for our students. Everyday in-classroom learning is essential for a student to be successful, but we very much value those extras too. This week has seen another raft of opportunities that have allowed staff to excite their students in ways that classroom-bound learning doesn’t always achieve.
And inside, back at school, we hosted our Cultural Week dance performances with hundreds of students in the auditorium enjoying either taking part in and/or watching. The noise was immense. A high volume roll of positivity for the dancers from so many different cultures could be heard, and it was a real success in bringing people together to support each other. Thank you to the families and staff that took part and supported in all sorts of different ways.
One last thing this week. If you have not done so already, please respond to the Strategic Plan survey HERE to share your thoughts on the direction of the school over the next few years.
