Kia ora tatou; Cultural Week has been a real highlight of the term. There has been fantastic energy around the school, with students proudly sharing aspects of their cultures and others taking the opportunity to participate, learn, and celebrate alongside them.
The week has been organised by the Cultural Council, which is one of our five Student Councils, with the support of key staff members. The committee has done an outstanding job of creating a varied programme that has included kī-o-rahi, henna painting, ei katu making, tukutuku panel making, cultural food stalls, Chinese lantern making, cultural dress, and today’s fashion show.
It has been wonderful to see students taking the lead, sharing their knowledge and talents, and creating opportunities for cultural identity, creativity, and connection to be visible across the school. I want to acknowledge the Cultural Council, the staff who have supported them, and everyone who has contributed to making the week such a success.
Cultural Week is an important celebration of the many cultures, identities, and experiences that make up Green Bay High School. It also reflects our continuing commitment to ensuring that students can be proud of who they are, learn from one another, and experience a genuine sense of belonging at school.
The week concludes tonight with our Cultural Performance Evening in the auditorium at 6.00pm. Students, whānau, and members of our school community are warmly invited to attend, with a gold coin donation appreciated. I am looking forward to seeing our students share their cultures and talents on stage.
I also want to wish our two bands competing in Rockquest this evening the very best of luck. We are proud to have them representing Green Bay High School and hope they have a fantastic performance.
