GBHS Newsletter (24 March 2023)

Kia ora e te whānau;
This week’s newsletter has some art, some music, some sport, some drama - some insight into the various opportunities that are provided by the school to develop the wider lives of our students. There are opportunities for you to give feedback and even become part of our staff team.

In this, our 50th celebration year, it is great to hear of the successes of our alumni. Loran Parker (class of 2014) has been selected for the White Sox and our newsletter has a great article about her and her progress to the international stage. As with many sports this is a labour of love and there is the opportunity to help her in her fundraising to get to the World Champs in Italy.

Our future international sports stars have also been out and about this week with particular mention going to our swimmers, orienteers and this weekend the various summer codes who are coming to the end of their programmes. With 40 or so teams lining up for the winter season we are still interested in hearing from you if you’d like to support in any way - perhaps being a key part of that path similar to the one that Loran took from Green Bay High School sport to international recognition. The Arts are also well represented this week with trips into the local area to take inspiration from the beautiful natural environment and to see collected arts at our local gallery, Te Uru. With a little glance into the future we will soon be bringing news of our music and drama students and their on-stage performances at home (the Level One performance evenings) and on the road (the Jazz Festival in Tauranga).

We have a forecast of at least one more lovely weekend. Enjoy yourselves in the sun - and for those who have assessments coming due soon - don’t skimp on the study to get yourselves in the best position for success.
