Kia ora e te whānau; It has been good to complete our first full week of the year!
Classrooms are settled, expectations are clear, and students and staff are focused on learning.
As you know, work is underway on two projects at the school: the new science building and the canopy over the turf. It’s been great to see these spaces gradually taking shape. I’ve enjoyed walking down to the sites each day and talking with students about what’s being built and when it will be finished. There’s a real sense of anticipation as the school continues to grow and develop. Moments like these, when you see progress and hear students’ ideas about what’s ahead, are gold.
You will see in this newsletter a full article outlining our 2025 Scholarship results. I am very proud of the students involved and grateful to the staff who supported them. Achieving 25 Scholarships across eight subjects, including an Outstanding Scholarship, is a significant accomplishment and reflects a commitment to learning well beyond the demands of Level 3.
Our value for this term is Respect. The whakataukī that underpins this value at Green Bay High School is:
He aha te mea nui o tēnei ao? He tangata, he tangata.
What is the most important thing in this world? It is people, it is people.
This whakataukī reminds us that strong learning communities are built on how we treat one another. Respect underpins achievement, shapes our relationships, and sets the tone for our school. At its heart, respect is about recognising and valuing the contribution of others, appreciating difference, and taking responsibility for the part each of us plays in our community. With over 2000 people onsite each day, that shared responsibility matters.
When we all work together and collective effort is acknowledged and valued, respect becomes more than a word; it becomes part of our culture.
Thank you for your continued support as we work together to ensure Green Bay High School remains a place where people matter and where everyone has the opportunity to thrive.
