Pasture Painting

Have you seen our crop circles and wondered what was going on?
A couple of colourful circles are slowly evolving on the grass and bank above the school auditorium as part of a trial to create a pasture painting (a mural made up of flowers).
The planting can help mitigate run-off, improving flood resilience and biodiversity, while the plants absorb excess water and improve the soil quality, whilst creating an attractive landscape painting.
One of the circles will (hopefully) depict our school's Green Impact logo; the other circle is a wildflower mix planting, which will attract insects over the summer months.
The idea originated from Ecomatters coordinator and regenerative educator, Amanda Hookham-Kraft, who works closely with the Green Impact team and our school compost hub.
Year 13 Green Impact members helped sow the seeds in their last week of school, a lovely legacy of their last few days at GBHS.
We are hopeful that the pasture painting will provide a colourful show over the summer period, welcoming a new cohort of Year 9 and other students back in February 2027.
