1st XI Cricket Win by 3 Wickets: GBHS V Liston
It was a whole-team effort as GBHS's 1st XI took the field, led by captain Luke Russell and vice-captain Keenan Wilson during Round 10, last weekend at Kumeū.
Green Bay bowled first, and Luke set the tone with 5 overs for just 7 runs and a wicket.
Liston were held to 26 for 2 after 10 overs.
Keenan Wilson, Jake Russell, Sakuna Karunarathna and Ahilesh Elankeeran each took a wicket, and Seth Hewage finished the innings with 5 wickets for 18 runs.
Liston were bowled out for 107 in 29 overs.
In the field, GBHS held 8 catches, with Wicketkeeper Nathan Hill taking two, and giving away no byes.
In reply, openers Neth Hewage and Nathan Hill put on 38, the best partnership of the match.
When GBHS slipped to 59 for 5, Louis Walter (22), Keenan Wilson and Ahilesh Elankeeran steadied the innings with calm, patient batting. Green Bay reached 108 for 7 in the 34th over to win by 3 wickets.
The 2026 season so far:
Last Saturday's win was GBHS's fourth win of the 2026 season in the College Sport Auckland Boys' 1B grade, with 4 wins and 6 losses from 10 games.
With 12 schools in the 1B grade, GBHS are on 12 points, level with Liston and Orewa College, but sit 9th on the table due to the net run rate used to separate teams on equal points.
The players have shown real improvement throughout the season, and there is plenty to build on for the final round and for next year!
