GBHS 1st XI beat Pakuranga College by 52 runs!
GBHS's 1st XI cricket team for several years has been playing T20 games, this term they have taken a step up to play LO40 games and joined the 1B senior cricket competition.
Saturday's game was at Pakuranga College. After being sent into bat by Pakuranga, captain Adam Bennett batted for a respectable 18 overs and scored 43 runs, including three 6s and four 4s.
Nithin Kishore scored 57 not-out over his 20 overs, including seven 4s. The entire team batted the 40 overs out, losing the last wicket on the last ball.
After a pizza lunch, provided by Pakuranga College, it was GBHS's task to defend its 169 runs. Some tight fielding with solid catches and some mean bowling meant that Pakuranga College was all-out at 117 runs in the 25th over.
Stand out bowling by Camron De Villiers with a 3-wicket haul, including a 2-wicket maiden over, as well as another 3 wickets taken by Jake Russell.
Huge thanks to the coach, Craig Wilson, and the parents who umpire, score and show support, spending their Saturday afternoons with the team.
GBHS Junior Cricket (Round 2) - GBHS 3/210 defeat St Peters College 2/113:
GBHS's Jnr Cricket team arrived at the Auckland Domain to find a tiny ground with a fast outfield, so a high scoring game was in prospect. And so it proved; after being sent into bat Jake Russell hit the first ball for four and we never let up, posting 3/210 off 20 overs, including 24 fours and 5 sixes. Nathan Hill 52no from 28 balls, and Sakuna Karunarathna 50ret (30 balls) reached half centuries, with Jake making 45 (37 balls).
Our bowlers knew they had to bowl full to best restrict the flow of runs and did so with great discipline. Neth Hewage 4 overs 1/12 and Nathan Baillie 4 overs 1/27, were our wicket takers. Ahilesh Elankeeran bowled 4 overs 0/8, but remarkably allowed no runs off the bat. Our ground fielding was very good, preventing many would-be boundaries. In fact our bowlers allowed only 6 fours in 20 overs.
The team has a the bye this Saturday, but are looking forward to their 3-day tournament at Keith Hay Park, next Tuesday - Thursday (18, 19, 20 November 2025).
