Outward Bound

GBHS has been offered two scholarships, worth $6000, for current Year 11 students to attend Outward Bound in 2026.

This particular Outward Bound Scholarship is for the 21-day 'Hiringa' course, taking place in March next year.

‘Hiringa’ is designed to help young people reach their full potential through outdoor adventures. Students will challenge their beliefs and push themselves to their physical and mental limits through a variety of activities held in the Outward Bound school in Anakiwa and the surrounding Queen Charlotte Sound.

To be eligible for the course you must meet the following requirements: ⭐ Be 16 years of age at the time of the course. ⭐ Attend an appointment with your GP to get medical clearance. ⭐ Would not otherwise be able to afford to attend Outward Bound without financial assistance. ⭐ Students are comfortable with being away from home for 21 days. ⭐ Students are comfortable with being challenged mentally, physically and emotionally. ⭐ Students are responsible and represent the values of their school while at Outward Bound. ⭐ Students are expected to give back to the school and wider community after their time at Outward Bound. ⭐ Outward Bound recommends Year 12 students who will be at school for the remainder of the year and following year after the programme finishes.

Applications close on Thursday, 23 October 2025, at 3.30pm. If required, an interview time will be set up with Mrs Webb, Mrs Mac and Dr T.
