Migrant Hui – Building Our Whānau Connections during Term 4 Hui/Meetings
- Te Rōpū Manawa Kuaka (Migrant Families Hui): Wednesday 29 October 2025
- Pasifika Fono / Hui: Thursday 6 November 2025
- Whānau Hui: Thursday 13 November 2025

This week we were delighted to welcome back many of our migrant whānau, to our Te Rōpū Manawa Kuaka (Migrant Families Hui) well as meet new families of Year 8 students who will be joining GBHS next year. Our hui was a wonderful opportunity to build and strengthen our connections as a whānau - celebrating the progress, relationships, and shared experiences we’ve developed throughout the year.
A highlight of the evening was hearing from Sienna Pereora, one of our inspiring Year 12 students, who shared her journey of moving to NZ and starting at GBHS. Her heartfelt message encouraged our students to:
- Ask for help — there’s no such thing as a silly question when you’re eager to learn.
- Be proud of your accent, your culture, and your story — they are your superpower and make you uniquely you.
- Be kind and patient, especially with yourself — mistakes aren’t failures, they’re lessons in disguise.
- Celebrate small wins — finishing an assignment, talking to someone new, or simply showing up all count.
- Remember it’s okay to have a bad day — just don’t let one bad day convince you you’re not doing amazing.
We’re so grateful to everyone who came along to share in this evening of connection, encouragement, and celebration.
Ka mau te wehi!
