Be part of Parliament's youth reference group - Applications NOW open!

The Parliamentary Engagement team are excited to announce that applications are now open for Rito o te Pāremata 2024 - Parliament’s youth reference group.

Rito is a group of eight young people who develop and promote an annual project of their choice, with the aim of increasing youth awareness of, and participation with, the New Zealand Parliament.

As a paid opportunity, successful applicants will receive the living wage on a casual contract. Part of the mahi involves attending the eleven meetings planned for 2024. You don’t need to have any experience or knowledge of Parliament - just an understanding of how to engage with your peers!

As well as providing feedback on other youth-focused resources Parliament produces, and representing young people in your community, you will have the chance to network and gain experience in fields you might be interested in pursuing—for example: social media, communications, and education. It’s a great experience to add to your CV!

Purpose of Role • Rito members have three core roles: to create a youth-focused project, to advise the Parliamentary Engagement team on youth views and engagement, and to connect Parliament’s work with their networks and communities.

Key responsibilities: • Attend and actively participate in the 11 (in person and via zoom) scheduled meetings in 2024. Additional meetings may be scheduled if the group agree. • Design and delivery of a project determined by the group that aligns with the goal of increasing youth engagement with Parliament. • Promote the project to local communities and peers. • Demonstrate political neutrality when representing Rito. This means not showing any preference to any political party or members when working with Rito.
