Green Bay High School Board of Trustees Update

On behalf of the Board of Trustees and the Green Bay High School whānau, we would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to Maree Stavert for her 20+ years of dedicated service. Maree’s unwavering commitment and contribution to our school has been fundamental to our success during this time.

We are deeply thankful for the time and energy Maree has so selflessly invested in our school and community and we wish Maree all the best. We will certainly maintain our strong connection with Maree in her role as Principal of Glen Eden Intermediate School.

Following the departure of Maree, the Board of Trustees is pleased to announce that it has selected Paul White to fill the vacancy.

We would like to take this opportunity to thank those of you who provided feedback regarding this vacancy on the Board as part of the recent community consultation process. Requests for a by-election were well below the 10% threshold and the Board moved to proceed with the Selection process.

Paul has served on the Board of Trustees as a co-opted member since 2021 and brings to the board both an invaluable Māori perspective, and also a pragmatic approach to decision-making, for the benefit of all learners.

The Green Bay High School Board of Trustees now has eight members including Paul and Principal Fiona Barker. Elected parent trustees are Norm Wallace (presiding member), Justin Dean, Chris Manase, and Zoe Hawkins. Dan Brunt was co-opted this year to share his Governance expertise and provide a Pasifika perspective. The staff trustee is Renee McGlashan, and the student trustee Annie-rose Collins.

All public schools in New Zealand have a board, responsible for the governance of the school. The board is responsible for ensuring that every student can reach their highest possible standard in student achievement, sets the school's strategic direction, oversees management of aspects of the school, and employs all staff of the school.
