Yr 13 Spirit Week

You could be mistaken for thinking 'GBHS Spirit Week' was somehow connected to Halloween. Well, it's not...but it sort of is ...

Although the calendar timing is a coincidence, GBHS's Spirit Week has become part of the Student Leader's legacy. Held to promote student wellbeing and allowing Year 13s to let off a bit of steam before knuckling down to sit their final NCEA exams.

This week has seen students dressed in hi-vis and hard hats with Tradie Tuesday; Wake Up Wednesday was a PJ Day, and Throwback Thursday was reminiscent of days of old with some fabulous get-ups, ranging from the 60s, 70s and 80s.

Today saw a mixture of ‘Adam Sandler’ costumes! Why Adam Sandler, you ask? Well, according to legend (aka student leader Estella Gray) the idea was inspired by a TikTok where a school in the States held an 'Adam Sandler day'.

"It just looked as though everyone was having so much fun with it, so we thought we would be able to pull this off too. There are lots of oversized basketball shorts and Hawaiian shirts, the bigger the better!"

And with perfect timing of Halloween on Monday 31 October, Year 13s will be dressed in Halloween costumes. Trick or Treat, anyone?
