Te Uru Secondary Art Awards Exhibition 2026 - E Tipu, E Rea: 29 August - 13 September

Te Uru’s annual Secondary School Art Awards exhibition celebrates the extraordinary developing artistic talent in West Auckland and aims to foster the next generation of artists.

We are pleased to promote GBHS student Tiger Wood-Weaver's entry!

"What am I going to paint? The ever-going statement when I start a project. Bringing a vision to life is the easy part; envisioning it, not so much. I sat for weeks trying to bring on some profound idea with the next genius hidden meaning. I had both too many and not enough ideas. In the end, I painted exactly that. My painter's torment of staring at a blank canvas. The burnout I faced from overcomplicating what was supposed to be my passion. Ironically, this was the painting that made me fall back in love with painting, that made me have fun again."

E Tipu, E Rea means ‘grow, young shoot,’ a reference to the budding artists as well as the gallery’s place here in Te Wao Nui-a-Tiriwa.
