The Derived Grade Exam Schedule has now been published in all Year Level Google Classrooms and the Student Hub.

PLEASE CHECK YOUR EMAILS FOR DETAILS REGARDING EXAM TIMETABLE, EXAM ROOMS AND UPDATES!

REMINDER:
Our school's CAA Literacy and Numeracy exams will be held in Weeks 8 and 9 (Monday, 7th of September, 2026 - Friday, 18th of September, 2026).
Derived Grade Exams take place in Weeks 9 and 10 (Monday, 14 September 2026 - Friday, 25 September 2026).

Years 11, 12, 13 students will be on Study Leave during this time - as per NCEA examination conditions - arriving for, and leaving directly after, each exam. Year 10 students taking CAA exams remain at school for the full day, returning to their normal timetable after each exam.

These exams will run under full NCEA examination conditions, and results may be used for Derived Grades if required. These exams are extremely important for several reasons:

  1. They provide essential preparation for the NCEA end-of-year external exams.
  2. They serve as Derived Grade, which may be used if a student is unable to sit their end-of-year exams due to illness, accident, bereavement or national representation.
  3. Many of the exams are actual NCEA external papers or workshops that contribute to external portfolios, so attendance is crucial.

To support your child’s preparation:

  • A Study Tips Guide - click HERE - and Study Planner Template is provided - click HERE - to help students plan and structure their study time.
  • Derived Grade Exams Timetable - click HERE
  • Room allocations for each exam have been emailed to students, published in Google Classrooms and the Student Hub.
  • Click HERE to complete the Clashes Form if your child misses an exam due to illness.

To help the exams run smoothly:

  • Students must arrive at their exam room at least 20 minutes early.
  • Please note that students will not be admitted if they arrive more than 30 minutes late.
  • For any exam marked with a (D), students must bring a fully charged laptop, and those taking Languages exams will also need to bring their headphones.

Prepare for the CAA exams - Encourage your child to make use of support sessions and study resources (Literacy and Numeracy essential books)

  • Literacy drop-in support sessions will run in B3, Tuesday's 3.30pm-4.30pm, during weeks 5,6 & 7. Students can spend some time working through some practice tasks, get some feedback on your attempts, or ask any questions. Alternatively, students can find help in the CAA Literacy Support Google Classroom.
  • Math Help: Tuesdays and Thursdays after school in F1.

CAA - Literacy and Numeracy - Resources for studying at home HERE are some helpful resources to support your child’s study at home - containing CAA Reading, CAA Writing, and CAA Numeracy exam papers, exemplars, and marker reports. Students can also complete digital past exam papers through their "MyNZQA" learner portal, which is a great way to practice under exam conditions. The 2024 Assessment Resources, in particular, include past papers, assessment specifications, reports, and exemplars that may be of use.

What to bring on exam day:

  • NZQA student account login details (make sure they know their password)
  • Arrive 30 minutes early to the exam room
  • A fully charged laptop
  • Headphones (for Writing and Numeracy exams, to access text-to-speech if needed)
  • A calculator (for the Numeracy exam)

After the exam:

  • Year 10 students: return to class.
  • Year 11–13 students: home to study.

We appreciate your support in ensuring your child is well-prepared and present for these important exams.
