Be safe, be seen, be responsible!
With foggy mornings and icy roads, now is a good time to remind students who travel by e-scooter or bicycle to familiarise themselves with NZ Waka Kotahi Land Transport rules.
If you're riding an electric scooter to and from school, make sure you're doing it safely and legally!
Under New Zealand transport guidance from NZ Transport Agency Waka Kotahi and motoring groups like the Automobile Association, when approaching a pedestrian crossing on an e-scooter, always slow down to a walking speed and completely dismount and walk your scooter across.
It is also recommended to wear a helmet, bright or hi-vis clothing, and ensure your lights are on! Wearing an additional headlamp on your helmet helps with visibility to other road users.
