NZSS Squash

Outstanding results at Nationals for our GBHS Girls’ Squash Team, consisting of Year 10s Lilly Jamieson, Miriama Brown, and Year 9s Ollie Schamrel, Mathilda Kearney, and Anna Brown.

After exceeding expectations and placing 2nd at the Auckland Senior Girls’ Teams Champs in June, the team was entered into the NZ Secondary Schools' Squash Teams Championship, held in Christchurch from 7-9 August.

Seeded 13th of 23 teams in the girls’ draw, GBHS had the biggest upset of the tournament, beating the 7th seed in their opening round (3 matches to 2) and advancing to the championship round of the top 8 teams. They were the only team in the tournament to beat a top 8-seeded team in the qualifying round!

The girls lifted their level and fought hard against the best teams in the country in the championship round, finishing the competition 8th overall and the highest placing of any Auckland girls’ teams. A fantastic effort and result for their first appearance at nationals and as a group of juniors. Well done girls!

The girls are all coached out of Titirangi Tennis and Squash Rackets Club, which partners with GBHS to provide squash lessons for students.
