Tongan Language Week (Uike Kātoanga'i 'o e Lea Faka-Tonga)

The official 2026 theme is Ko 'etau hiva, ko e fe'unu mahu'inga ia ki he mo'ui 'a e Tonga, which translates to "Our music is a vital strand of our Tongan culture".

To celebrate Tongan Language Week, GBHS's Cultural Council organised some fun events:
🌺Tuesday lunchtime - Netball
🌺 Wednesday interval - pronunciation workshop during interval, for anyone who would love to learn some basic Tongan words, names and phrases, and practice pronouncing them correctly + a keke isite competition!
🌺Thursday lunchtime - Heilala making in the Auditorium foyer. Make your own Sei - a Polynesian traditional flower.
🌺Friday - students wore traditional formal Tongan dress. And spectacular lunchtime performances in the auditorium ended the week with passion and pride!
