Nearly 18 and Ready to Vote?

To be eligible to vote in NZ's General Election, you must be 18 years or older, a New Zealand citizen or resident for electoral purposes, and have lived in New Zealand continuously for 12 months or more at some time in your life.

Not quite 18 yet? If you are 17, you can fill out an enrolment form now! Then on your 18th birthday, you will be automatically enrolled, ready to vote in the next election.

A general election is when we vote for the people and parties who represent us in Parliament and form a government. Voting: Saturday, 7 NOVEMBER 2026

To vote in a general election, you need to be enrolled 13 days before election day. For the 2026 election, this means you need to enrol to vote before 25 October!
