Fast Paced Maths at its Finest!
Mathex is a challenging mathematics contest where schools from across Auckland compete against each other in teams to answer questions as quickly as possible, with 20 questions completed in 30 minutes.
The atmosphere was energetic! Held at the Barfoot and Thompson stadium, on Wednesday evening, with over 70 secondary schools taking part.
Our teams put in an amazing effort:
- Year 9 (team 1) scored 100% coming 9th place overall. Congratulations to: Ryan Lott, Juliette Colquhoun, Michael Zuo, Vidusha Jayasinghe.
- Year 9 (team 2) scored 60% - well done to: Oscar Dellow, Faith Lai, Cameron Seal, Rafa Edwards-Pascual.
- Year 10 (team 1) scored 45% - great effort by: Aiden Brophy, Arnav Maharaj, Tom Waller, Rumman Musharraf.
- Year 10 (team 2) scored 75% - ka pai: Krisha Karippail, Emelia Queenin, Hollie Sorensen, Sophie Proctor.
It was great to see so many parents, whānau, and teacher supporters watching from the stands as teams worked together, to problem-solve and answer questions. Upon completing the answer, the team 'runner' literally sprints to the judging table and waits for the 'thumbs up' for a correct answer. If the answer is incorrect, the runner frantically makes their way back to the team, who has to resolve the question. If the answer is correct, the runner brings back the next question to the team ... then runs the answer back to the judges. Making for a fun, frantic event!
We wish our local intermediate competitors all the best, in the Intermediate Schools' event, taking place tonight.
