"I'm super excited to represent the country!"...

Green Bay High School's Deva Bennett (Year 13) has recently been selected to represent New Zealand, competing in the U18 women's 19km race, at the international kayaking marathon, in Denmark!

Deva's interest in kayaking was ignited about a year ago, thanks to her involvement in the Piha Surf Life Saving Club.

"When I was eight, I joined junior surf lifesaving at Piha, and eventually, I became a lifeguard and involved in surf lifesaving sport. My favourite event was the ski race, which led me to kayaking, and having the passion to get faster and better in the ski. Over the last year, I have trained daily in kayaking and improved a lot."

Deva is busy training in preparation for this race, to perform to the best of her abilities, and says she is "super excited to represent the country, and to travel overseas for the first time!"
