Winter Sports Underway

Green Bay High School’s winter sport schedule is well underway, with all teams now in action!
Our five Senior Netball teams have finished grading and played Game 1, Round 1 on Tuesday night. The squads are looking very strong, with some great wins from our Senior A, Senior Blue and Senior Social teams. A total of seven Junior Netball teams started their first week of grading games last Saturday, with one more week of grading before commencing Game 1, Round 1.
GBHS’s lst XI Girls’ Football team are now three games deep into the A1 season after being promoted from A2 last year and have two wins under their belt already! Our 2nd XI Girls’ Football team and 9A Girls’ Football teams played their first games on Wednesday, with the 2nd XI taking home a great 5-0 win against MAGS!
Our lst XI Boys’ Football team are also two games into the season and are due to play their third match this Friday against Mahurangi College, 7:30pm at Crum Park. This will be a great local game to come down and support! GBHS has another eight Boys’ Football teams, whose games started last Saturday, with the majority of teams taking home the win.
Boys’ Hockey and Girls’ Hockey have also begun. Last week, our Boys’ team versed Waitakere College and were winning most of the game before suffering an unfortunate injury to our side, leaving us 3-2 down at the final whistle. The Girls’ team are set to go up against Rutherford College today (Thursday 7 May). Results will be updated next week.
Basketball also kicked off this week with five boys' teams and one girls’ team entered into the competition. This is the first time in three years that GBHS has a girls’ team entered! On Wednesday, our Open A, Junior Blue and Junior Green Boys’ teams had their first games, and we won two out of three. The U17 Blue, U17 Green, and Girls’ teams play their first game tonight (Thursday 7 May). Results will be updated next week.
Rugby is the last of our school sport teams to start their season, with their first game set to take place this Saturday. The U85s have a Home game against Auckland Grammar School. The U60s take on Botany Downs College for an away game.
This week, we also had five students (Ollie Schamrel, Jack Ridyard, Cameron Bennett, Lilly Jamieson and Miriama Brown) representing GBHS in the Auckland Squash Individual Champs, held from 5-7 May. We are awaiting final results and will update next week.
