GBHS has had yet another busy week of sport...
Congratulations to Year 9 students Otis Barrington, Jerry Cai and Daniel Gee, who competed at the Auckland Ski Champs and did immensely well! Otis placed 4th overall, Daniel placed 5th, and Jerry placed 7th. Fantastic results!
Our Girls' Hockey team had a dominant 5-0 win against Rutherford College last Thursday in their brand-new kit; for a very stylish finish.
There was another 1-1 draw for our First XI Boys' Football at last Friday's game against Western Springs. With no games scheduled this week, the boys can enjoy a well-earned breather, marking the halfway point for the season.
The Year 13 Boys' Football team had a 'World Cup' style 7-1 win against St Peter's College, and our 9A Boys' Football had a 6-1 win over MAGS.
With three great wins last Saturday for our 9A, 9 Blue and 10 Blue Netball Teams, this leaves just one more game this Saturday for our Junior Netball Teams in Round 1.
Our U85 Boys' Rugby found their groove again, with a dominant 52-0 win over King's College, and our U65 Boys' Rugby also showed their class with a 33-14 win against Macleans College.
Last Sunday, 10 of our students competed in the Auckland Orienteering Rogaine Champs held out at the Muriwai Beach end of Woodhill Forest, with some notable finishes by Year 10 students Fran Ishida and Marina Zheng who placed 4th in the team event, and Tsubaki Moore who placed 7th in the individual event.
The GBHS Premier Netball Girls' team had an intense top-of-the-table clash against Hobsonville Point on Tuesday. They kept the points close the entire game and played their hearts out until the final buzzer. The team remains in the 1B Grade for the final round of games.
Ten students competed in the Auckland Squash Team Champs, held at North Shore Squash Club on Tuesday and Wednesday this week . Our Girls' Team consisted of Ollie Schamrel (Yr 9), Anna Brown (Yr 9, Mathilda Kearney (Yr 9), Lilly Jamieson (Yr 10), and Miriama Brown (Yr 10); and our Boys' Team consisted of Jack Ridyard (Yr 10), Cameron Bennett (Yr 10), Jayden Ives (Yr 11), Jakob Swafford (Yr 11) and Ben Blake (Yr 12). Both teams dominated their competition, winning all pool matches and progressing to the finals. The Girls' team went up against last year's winners, Macleans College, and it came down to the wire with only a few points in it, finishing in 2nd Place in Division 1. The Boys' team versed a strong Long Bay College team and also came away with a 2nd Place finish in Division 2. We are very proud of these teams.
It was a great 2-0 win for our First XI Girls' Football team against Rutherford College on Wednesday, with Sammi Morton (Yr 10) scoring both goals. This team are tightly in first place on the table and have just two more regular-season matches to play. We are hopeful of winning our last two games to be promoted to the Premier League!
Wednesday's 3-0 win for our Boys' Hockey against Waitakere makes it the fifth consecutive win with only two more games to go. Can we make it seven?
There was also a great 48-22 win for our Junior Blue Basketball Boys' team against Western Springs College.
The Girls' Hockey team will be versing Waitakere College on Thursday evening (results to be posted).
Our Junior 3rd XI Football Boys', Year 13 Football Boys', and the U60s Rugby Boys ' teams have Home Games this Saturday, come on down to support.
And good luck to our Cross Country Team, who are travelling down to Wellington this weekend for the Cross Country Nationals event. We'll keep you posted on the results!
