Celebrate Samoa Language Week: 31 May - 6 June 2026
Vaiaso o le Gagana Sāmoa: The 2026 theme for Samoa Language Week is "‘E afua mai i mauga tetele manuia o le 'nu'u - From the high mountains are the blessings of the village."
Next week is going to be full of pride and culture, in recognition of Samoan Language Week (31 May - 6 June 2026) and our very own Green Bay High School Cultural Week - celebrating over 80 different ethnic groups within our GBHS!
We have lots of activities, events and food planned throughout the week. A display will be up all week in the audi foyer celebrating all of our cultures at GBHS. Participation in any of the activities will earn house points:
🌺Tuesday:
Form time: Kahoot quiz for house points and prizes.
Lunchtime: ki o rahi games on the turf (sign up forms on google classroom).
💃🏾Wednesday:
Interval: henna painting (sign up form), ei katu making, tukutuku panel - audi foyer.
Lunchtime: Cultural food stall, gold coin donation (10 stalls and different ethnic foods available).
🏮Thursday:
Lunchtime: Volleyball (gym) and Chinese lantern making in G1.
👘Friday:
Students are encouraged to dress in their cultural attire.
Lunchtime: Fashion show and photographs (auditorium). Students who have signed up can be a part of the show, everyone is welcome to come and watch.
The week will culminate with a CULTURAL PERFORMANCE EVENING - 6pm in the Auditorium, Friday 6 June. Whānau are welcome - gold coin donation.
Did you know? The Samoan language has many components, depending on the situation and the company you are speaking to. There is 'simple' Samoan, more 'complex' Samoan, there is 'everyday' language, and there is also 'respectful' language. There is language specific to young people, and a separate language that pertains to chiefs and orators.
