Sports Roundup (Week 4/Term 3):
With only a couple more weeks of the winter season left, we are pleased to report that most GBHS teams have entered their play-off games.
Our Basketball Boys' Senior Open team have been having a great run these past weeks, with a recent 45-24 win against MAGS last Wednesday.
Results are still pending for our recent Basketball Senior open, Junior Green, and Junior Blue teams. Tonight, the Senior Development side will go up against Elim Christian School, followed by our U17 Open Boys' team as they head into the semi-finals against Saint Peter's College - this is a home game, so it would be great to see some Green Bay supporters on the sidelines.
It was a tough 2-0 loss for our 1st XI Boys' Football team on Friday last week against Western Springs, but they played a great game nonetheless. Same story for our 2nd XI Boys' Football, who lost 3-1 to Takapuna in their quarter-final match. Great news for our 14A Boys' Football though - winning their quarter-final match, 3-2 against Onehunga.
Great news for our 1st XI Girls' Football, who have placed 1st in the A2 league after a surprising default from MAGS. So, despite not playing on Wednesday due to the default, they have secured enough points to hold their position at the top. Their focus now is on the upcoming play-off games that will determine whether they get promoted into the A1 league, or if they will stay put in the A2 league. Well done girls!
We have a must-win game for our 1st XI Football Boys' team this Friday against Liston. Be sure to head on down to Crum Park to see them in action! Our 2nd XI Boys' Football have progressed to the semi-finals, along with our 14A Boys' team. Good luck to them for Saturday!
GBHS Junior Netball had another great run, with all Year 10 teams winning their games once again, and another great win for our 9A Girls. Our Junior Netball team will commence their semi-final round this Saturday, with most teams looking good for a top 3 finish in their grade. Tuesday was a tough night for our Senior Netball teams with tight losses but no wins. Our Premier Girls' team and Senior A Girls' team, having lost this play-off round, will both be playing for 3rd/4th place in the finals next week.
Our 1st XV Boys' Rugby had a great 25-19 win over Avondale, and are now looking like they'll finish 3rd in their grade. It was a tight 21-17 loss for our U70 Boys' team against Glendowie, but they played awesome all the way through.
This weekend is the last game of the season for our rugby teams, with our 1st XV team playing on home turf against Rutherford, while our U70 Boys' team are away at Pakuranga. They'd love your support!
