GBHS's Hospitality Stars Shone Brightly at MIT Hospo Competition!
Our talented Year 12 and 13 Hospitality students are thrilled to announce their incredible success at the 2025 Secondary and Tertiary Training Hospitality Competition, held at Manukau Institute of Technology (MIT) on 20 May 2025!
This prestigious live event saw students from 15 secondary schools across the North Island showcasing their culinary skills and creativity under pressure. Our students did us proud, cooking up a storm and bringing home an impressive haul of awards!
Year 13 students Noele Banicevich and Anna Hashimoto wowed the judges in the live cookery section with two delicious dishes: Pasta Fusilli with Chicken, Basil and Creamy Tomato Sauce, and Spinach, Basil & Peanut Pesto Pasta. Their attention to detail and flavour combinations had mouths watering! Both gained silver awards.
Tyrus Raymond (Year 12) took on the Café Breakfast category and earned a bronze award, delivering a dish that truly captured the essence of a perfect café-style morning meal.
In the Classic Kiwi Biscuits category, the accolades kept rolling in: Benji Godsmark (Year 12) struck gold and was named the overall category winner!
Pheonix Meredith (Year 13) also achieved a gold award for his top-notch baking.
Grace Jansen (Year 13) and Hazel Hochwimmer (Year 12) both earned well-deserved silver awards for their exceptional biscuit entries.
We are incredibly proud of all our competitors for their skill, professionalism, and dedication. These results reflect the hard work they've put into their Hospitality training, and it’s exciting to see their passion shine on a competitive stage.
A massive congratulations to all our student chefs and bakers - you're cooking up bright futures!
