Global Whānau Auckland: International Students Unite Across Schools
On Saturday, 25 May, Green Bay High School hosted a heartwarming international student event 'Global Whānau Auckland' founded by GBHS's Anna Hashimoto, a Year 13 Japanese-Peruvian international student.
This student-led initiative aims to create a “third space” where students from different cultural and linguistic backgrounds can connect beyond school borders and social labels.
The event brought together international students from local schools representing Japan, Germany, Italy, Chile, Colombia, Mexico, Norway, China, Taiwan, Hong Kong, Brazil, and the United States. With activities such as speed self-introductions, bingo, and a Kahoot quiz, the atmosphere was full of laughter, cultural exchange, and genuine connection.
Anna shared that her vision is to “build a space where people can take off their labels - like nationality or school - and truly connect as human beings.”
The project has already gained significant attention, with Instagram reels reaching over 24k views.
We look forward to seeing how Global Whānau Auckland continues to grow and bring people together!
