HOUSE HYPE - an energetic breakdown written by a legend in his own right, the one, the only...Mr Harris!
Term 2 was full of energy, competition, and unforgettable moments! Let’s dive into the action-packed highlights that made this term one for the books:
🔥 Four Square Showdown We kicked things off with a Casual Four Square competition on the Turf, and wow – the participation was off the charts! Friendly rivalries, sharp reflexes, and plenty of laughs set the tone for an incredible term.
🎮 Fortnite Frenzy The Fortnite Tournament was nothing short of epic! With heart-pounding battles and clutch plays, students gave it their all – but there could be only one winner ... congratulations to Joseph Vea (Year 10) who emerged victorious, securing the ultimate Victory Royale!
💖 Pink Shirt Day – Power in Unity GBHS proudly stood for kindness and respect throughout Pink Shirt Day, showing powerful support for anti-bullying. A sea of pink and a message of positivity lit up our school community.
🧠 Spellbound Showdowns The Great GBHS Spelling Bee was relaunched in the Auditorium as the spotlight shone on our phenomenal spellers. Congratulations to: Junior School Winners:
- 1st place: Chelsea Whitten (W9HWL)

🌏 Cultural Legends Unite Students earned points by taking part in a variety of cultural activities and challenges, celebrating the diversity and traditions that make our school unique. A huge shoutout to those who performed and shared their heritage with pride. "Cheee-hoooo!"
🪙 Flip the Coin – The Ultimate Gamble To close out the term, our legendary Flip the Coin competition returned with high-stakes coin tossing! In a dramatic twist of fate, Ruby Smith (P13MSH), representing Piha trusted her instincts to claim 1st Place, with Mr. Fernandez, representing Muriwai right behind in 2nd!
🏆 And now for the moment you have all been waiting for... let's give a massive round of applause to the House that rose above the rest… The House that showed grit… …unshakable determination… …spirit that could light up this gym… …and heart? Oh, so much heart – the kind that gives you goosebumps and makes you want to break into a slow clap in the middle of assembly. This was the House that didn’t just show up — they showed out. They competed. They flipped coins like legends. They spelled like champions. They Fortnite’d like pros. They Four Squared with flair. They culture-celebrated so hard we almost gave them bonus points just for the vibes. There were twists. There were turns. There was drama. At one point, we thought another House might take it… but then BAM!, comeback season. And so, with great honour, suspense, and possibly a dramatic drumroll in the background (you’re imagining it, aren’t you?)… We reveal the Term 2 champions… The House that conquered all… The House that stood tall through every challenge, every game, every spelling bee word no one could pronounce... Please stand, cheer, scream (appropriately), and maybe shed a single dramatic tear for… 🥁🥁🥁 WHATIPU!!! Bring on Term 3 – it’s only going to be EPIC💥
