Term 1 SPORTS

The Term 1 Summer Sport Season has come and gone in a flash, but not without its share of achievement.
Students represented the school in archery, mountain biking, volleyball, cricket, tennis, futsal, waterpolo, orienteering, tag, aquathon, athletics, softball, triathlon, kayaking and basketball 3x3. It proves to be the busiest Term of the year as students juggle their summer sporting codes and the start of winter sport at the same time.
There have been many highlights and achievements this term, and we would like to recognise them. We had 12 students qualify for the Orienteering Sprint Series Finals, our biggest qualifying group ever! Aidan Barrett-Hamilton took home a 2nd Place finish in the finals. Henry Klimetz secured 3rd Place in the Intermediate Boys Category at the Auckland Aquathon. Dylan Gear, Julian Murphy, and Florence Murphy competed at the NZSS Kayaking Nationals. Dylan and Julian took home a 3rd Place finish in the K2 Sprint, and Dylan, Julian and Florence came 3rd in the U16 Sprint Relay. Finn Birch got 1st Place in the Intermediate Boys Steeplechase at Auckland Athletics Champs. Our Senior Waterpolo Team placed 2nd in their League and our Senior Boys Blue Tennis Team placed 1st in their League.
The annual summer tournament week was held in Week 9 with four Green Bay High School teams out representing the school. Our Futsal Girls were down in Wellington for a National Tournament after qualifying for it back in 2025. Both Volleyball teams stayed local competing at Trusts Arena in Henderson. And our Basketball 3x3 Boys were at Bruce Pulman Arena in Takanini. The Futsal Girls went up against the best of the best and proved themselves a worthy component and have qualified again for next year’s Nationals. Our Volleyball Teams both made it into the Top 16 after their pool games and narrowly missed out on a Top 8 finish, with the boys placing 11th and the girls 13th overall. The Basketball 3x3 Boys had an outstanding performance, taking home an 11th Place finish.
Thank you to all students, staff, parents, coaches and managers who made this summer sport season possible. We look forward to continuing the success as we segue into the winter sport season which gets underway the first week back in Term 2.
