NZSS Canoe Sprints

Congratulation to Dylan Gear (Y9), Julian Murphy (Y9) and Florence Murphy (Y11) who recently represented GBHS at the 2026 NZ Secondary School Canoe Sprint National Championships in Lake Tikitapu, Rotorua.

All three are members of Piha Surf Life Saving Club competition squad, so they are used to paddling kayaks through waves!

The Kayaks used in the competition are supplied by Canoe NZ and used for sprints.

Despite the differences in kayak design, Dylan and Julian came 3rd in the U14 Men K2 250m, and Dylan, Florence and Julian came 3rd in the U16 mixed-gender 3x100m relay.

We are super proud of them for giving all their races a try and coming away with medals. We're hoping that next year, we can enter a larger team!
