Math Competitions

Calling all keen Mathematicians!

As part of the Mathematics program at Green Bay High School, students are invited to participate in the following competitions:

University of Otago Junior Maths Competition: Part 1 on the 25th of March (Yrs 9, 10, 11, 12) Part 2 (for only qualified students from part 1) on the 6th of May. Cost $6.

Australian Maths Competitions: Wednesday 5 August. Cost $11 (Juniors & Seniors)

Mathex, August 2026. No cost (Selected Juniors)

These are largely problem-solving competitions that utilise skills from across the Mathematics curriculum. This is a great way to further develop the skills of students who enjoy mathematics and respond well to being challenged.

The University of Otago Junior Maths Competition and the Australian Maths Competition will take place during school time. Students will receive certificates for participation or high achievement, with monetary prizes for the first 30 students in the country for the Otago Junior Maths Competition.

The Mathex competition is held in the evening at the Barfoot & Thompson Stadium in Kohimarama.

The Mathematics Faculty will organise training and preparation for the competitions.
