Futsal Finale

This week, Green Bay High School's Senior Girls' Futsal team competed in the New Zealand Secondary Schools' Futsal National tournament at the Akau Tangi Sports Centre in Wellington. This was the girls' first time qualifying for this event after winning the North Island Regionals in March 2025!

A special mention for Year 13 students Lily Roebeck and Chantay Robinson who both now bow out of school Futsal as the season comes to a close for 2026.

Chantay was top scorer, and Lily captained the team bravely throughout the tournament. Both of these students leave a lasting legacy at Green Bay High School after leading us to a regional win last year and our first national appearance this year, as well as paving the way for future generations of Futsal players at GBHS.

The National competition started off strongly for the team, with a spirited 3-3 draw against one of the favourites of the tournament, Mt Maunganui College. After that, results were unfortunately mixed but we did pick up good wins against John Paul College and Onslow College.

Although we did not place as high as we would have liked, the team can be extremely proud of themselves for qualifying and competing in this prestigious tournament for the first time. We have also successfully qualified for the event again in 2027 due to our final placing this year, this is an awesome achievement and we now look to build on our experience this time round and come back stronger next year.

I have been immensely proud coaching this group and it has been an absolute pleasure leading them the last few years. A massive thank you also goes to Amanda Chisholm for volunteering to manage the team. This is a massive job, and Amanda continues to step up to the plate each season.

Thank you as well to everyone at school who helped make this tournament happen for us; we all really appreciate it.
