Year 9 Literacy

Literacy skills are essential for success in all subjects. As part of the Year 9 Literacy unit, students write an email to their English teachers and share some of their interests, pets, family, plans for the future, etc.
Published (with permission from Poppy) the following entry shows an excellent grasp of descriptive writing talent!
My family and I are close. My older sibling, Mogs, has been a big part of my life, and we play Dungeons and Dragons together every Saturday around a large cork table in our living room with friends. My mother, Anastasia, is lovely. She is always singing and runs a choir with her friends in our kitchen every now and then, so the beautiful music echoes around our house, twisting and swirling through the halls, flooding into every nook and cranny like shadows after a light switch is turned off. My father, Haydn, is wonderful at planning things and always figures out good places to go out to eat, and an amazing cook, especially when cooking meat or a barbecue. You can always tell if he is in the kitchen as the aroma of a steak or stew will fill your mind and nostrils, even if you're on the other side of the house. Though, I must mention my mother cooks a beautiful pie or lasagna, which is always a treat.
I don't have too many close friends, but the ones I have are extremely important to me. I would say my two best ones would be Harri Leys and Victoria Bradley. I have known Victoria for my entire life, or since Year One, and I don't go a week without seeing her. Harri, however, I only have known for a year, but she is absolutely amazing, definitely at the same level of friend as Victoria. Recently, for my 13th birthday party, I went out with them alone to get tacos at a place called Taco Loco, and it was wonderful to just be alone without parents and eat good food and have good conversation.
My hobbies are almost entirely creative. I would not be able to live without books and reading. I adore romance and fantasy novels and can tear through 800 pages in two days. That isn't even a Hyperbole; it happened once. My favourite author has to be Anna Huang, who is quite a well-known romance writer, especially online. Across my bedroom and entire house, there are books everywhere, and my family is extremely interested in literature and storytelling. I also love drawing and art; art has been in my life since I could hold a pencil and is one of my main creative outlets. An honorable mention of my hobbies would be sewing. It was taught to me by my grandmother, and I have a distinctive memory of sitting at the dining table in her old house when I was three in front of a sewing machine. My grandmother had to pile up encyclopedia's to put the pedal on so I could reach it with my tiny feet - can you tell I don't have a fear of needles?
I've never been one of those kids who hate school. Learning is enjoyable for me, and finding out new things is one of the great pleasures in life. In primary school, I often felt left behind in maths because it is not my forte. However, in literacy and art, I truly excel. I took up violin lessons at the start of last year in school. So, every Friday, I would miss PE and learn the instrument, which was refreshing to get out of the damp class. Now, in high school, I am starting to enjoy school a lot more, with all the lovely teachers and students that are around me. I'm excited to see where this will go.
After high school, I am definitely hoping to do something ideally in visual art to open up fields in animation, graphic design, and freelance. On the other hand, it would be a great joy to get into the fashion industry. My paternal grandmother used to be a fashion designer and had many brands in her days. I remember long summer days from when I was younger and even recently, sitting at her machine sewing or cutting out a pattern for some elaborate design she had been cooking up for me. I still sew in my spare time and have a lot of skills. Maybe I could even create my own brand someday, like my grandmother did.
