Setting the Pace

A team of GBHS Athletes have been setting the pace at recent events across the motu lately.

Aidan Barrett-Hamilton (Yr 9), Isobel Beaumont (Yr 10), Lauren Barrett-Hamilton (Yr 13) competed at the NZ Track and Field Championships, in Dunedin.

Aidan (pictured) won three medals - a gold, a silver and a bronze and got PBs in all his events. Lauren placed second in triple jump, but unfortunately had to pull out of the hurdles as she hurt her heel/ankle. Isobel didn't medal this time, but competed in the 400m.

Eleven students from GBHS also competed at the Auckland Secondary Schools' Athletics Champs: Aidan Barrett-Hamilton (Yr 9), Max Bottiani (Yr 9), Riley Kannegieter (Yr 9), Tsubaki Moore (Yr 9), Arlo Speakman (Yr 9), Ella Stirrup (Yr 9), Marina Zheng (Yr 9), Isobel Beaumont (Yr 10), Thomas Brown (Yr 10), Sofia Maulvurfs (Yr 10), Finn Birch (Yr 11)

Notable results were:

• Aidan Barrett-Hamilton – 2nd Discus, 3rd 300m, and also made it into the final of the 200m (top 8 out of 80 entries).
• Sofia Maulvurfs – 2nd Steeplechase
