This week ended the 5-week Orienteering Western Zones competition with 18 Green Bay High School students competing - and we have come away with some amazing results!
(Thank you to Year 13 Student Leader, Lauren Barrett-Hamilton, for submitting the following report):
The top 10 students from each age group have qualified to compete at the Auckland Champs on Sunday, April 6. In the Year 9 girls, GBHS occupied the first 3 places with Jessica Radley 1st, Tsubaki Moore 2nd, and Daphne Slater 3rd. Fran Ishida placed 8th so has also qualified for the Auckland Champs.
In the Year 9 Boys, Aidan Barrett-Hamilton placed 1st, Reuben Edlington 3rd, and Oscar Raos 7th.
In the Year 12/13 Girls age group, Alexis Heckler (Yr 13) placed 4th.
A special mention to other students who completed at least 4 out of 5 races but unfortunately have not qualified for the Auckland Champs are, Daniel Colquhoun 11th (Yr 13), Henry Klimetz 14th (Yr 11), Jonty Sherson 14th (Yr 13), Marina Zheng 15th (Yr 9), Avia Patel 20th (Yr 9), and Rosie Klimetz 21st (Yr 9).
Other orienteering events coming up are the North Island Secondary Schools' competition, to be held over ANZAC weekend and run by the Counties Manukau Orienteering Club.
There are also several non-school events coming up that anyone can take part in. Please email Sarah Barrett-Hamilton if you are interested in finding out more about these events.
