Term 1 Library News wrap-up:
A special gathering of student librarians took place yesterday, with gifts and prizes to say 'thank you' to the team for all the work they do in helping to run the school library.
This was a great opportunity to have the school library team in one place at one time, with an impromptu easter egg hunt - which was chaotic fun!
There are currently 110 students on the team - each rostered for one lunchtime duty a week. Some librarians are very keen and turn up to help us in their own time during other breaks, and all these students bring life and vitality to our great library space.
Customer service, issuing and returning books, keeping the library clean and tidy, shelving and processing books and keeping the collection in order are just some of the things our student librarians are involved in - as well as making displays that draw attention to various celebrations happening within the school.
After much consultation with clients (the students of Green Bay High School) our library has developed our own labels. Student Librarians voted on their favourites and Kai Lawford (Year 13) helped to create the finished icons ready for printing, and labelling.
Student Librarians have been very busy this term, assisting with the ambitious 2025 Library project: to rearrange the Fiction collection to have books grouped by genre, so if you really enjoy Mystery & Suspense they will all be in the same area.
Many other secondary schools have made this move and have seen the use of their fiction books increase as it is much easier for students to find the sort of book they like to read.
