COLLEGE SPORT ARCHERY LEAGUE

College Sport Archery League has now concluded with the fun shoot and prizegiving which was held at Auckland Archery Club, One Tree Hill. It was great to have all our archers together at the same location.
The fun shoot was a dart board target face, so strategy was key to a high score.
Jesse our compound archer got to shoot with the recurve team (Ethan, Fern and Isaac) and they got 2nd place in the 1st session fun shoot.
Jesse stayed for the 2nd session and helped out another team that was short an archer and helped that team with a 3rd place in the 2nd session.
In the League, our archers did themselves proud. There were multiple personal bests set throughout the last 6 weeks.
Barebow: Nathan Bennett (Yr 10) and Leo Ferguson (Yr 9) came a very credible 4th place in Division 2 with a really good aggregate score. The barebow division had 59 archers competing and Leo in his 1st year of College Sport finished in 21st and Nathan 22nd place. Great effort boys.
Compound: Jesse Matheson (Yr 11) competed as an individual only this year as we needed a 2nd compound bow archer for a team. Jesse set a PB in the ranking round, and then smashed it again in round 2 with a 285 out of 300 with his best round placement of 2nd. This had him 3rd in the League after 3 weeks but 2 difficult shoots in rounds 4 and 5 saw him finish with a 5th place out of 24. Great effort Jesse.
Recurve: Our recurve team of Ethan Winson (Yr 12), Fern Buley (Yr 12) and Isaac Beech (Yr 9) were up for a huge challenge. Recurve teams are made up of 4 archers, and we only had 3. The team were in Division 5 and competing against full teams. They managed 2 wins which was an amazing achievement and like the Barebow team, had a really good aggregate score.
The recurve division had 140 individual archers competing and our archers did us proud. This is a tough division to compete in with lots of 1-point or ties between placings. Ethan finished 39th, Fern 50th and Isaac in his 1st year of College Sport, 128th.
Most of our archers have entered College Sport Matchplay on the 6th April which is run as a stand alone event. This will be the archers final school event this term.
GBHS need a few more archers to join the team. We specifically need a couple of compound archers, 2 or more recurve archers, and at least 1 more barebow archer for next year's league.
