Kapa Haka Festival

Kōtuitui Kāhui Ako Kapa Haka Festival Supports Community Connections:

On Monday, 10 November 2025, the annual Kōtuitui Kapa Haka Festival took place, involving 11 of our local schools. This momentous event was hosted by Glen Eden Intermediate School.

Green Bay High School's Kapa Haka rōpū delivered an impassioned performance that captured the wairua of the occasion and filled the room with pride. It was a significant moment for all of our younger students in the community to witness where their Kapa Haka skills might take them in a few years!

Special thanks to our performers: Fern Capes (Year 13), Miriama Brown (K9DAF), Paige Browne (M9KRT), Isobella Esekielu-Mackenzie (P9TWR),Troy Faaaliga (M9ERC), Reilloch Gilligan (W9HEN), Paige Graham (K9COO), Isla Gray (K9coo), Georgia Hall (P9LPS), Sophia Janif (K9COO), Taylor Paparoa (M9KRT), Edison Roberts (W9HEN), Luca Sutton (K9COO), Sylvie Yallop (P9LPS) and, of course, to our tutors Te Awhina Navunidakua and Eyana Lopes.

Pictured above are eight of our Year 10 student leaders (all from K10WMS: Jessica Andrews, Amelie Ray, Willow Capes, Sofia Bell, Evelyn Dean, Sofia Maulvurfs, Hannah Walton, Mia Hu) proudly representing Green Bay High School as guides at the festival, and supported the smooth running of the day - demonstrating leadership and manaakitanga in welcoming and assisting participating schools.

The purpose of this festival was to celebrate community, connection, and culture - a chance for our Kāhui Ako to come together, uplift Te Reo Māori, and honour all elements of Te Ao Māori. It was a powerful reminder of the strength that comes from unity and shared identity.
