GBHS's Jnr Cricket team are off to an impressive start: GBHS 4/129 defeating MAGS 6/81 during the first game was against MAGS at Avondale Racecourse.
After being sent into bat by the MAGS captain, we had some early hiccups with the bat and found ourselves 4/35. However, an unbroken 95 run partnership between Neth Hewage (33no) and captain Jake Russell (29no) first steadied the ship, then accelerated the scoring to get us a respectable total of 129.
A fantastic team effort from our bowlers restricted MAGS' run rate and took regular wickets to see us clear winners by 48 runs. Wickets were shared between Ahilesh Elankeeran (2/19), Mac Kalksma (2/18), Seth Hewage (1/14) and Kavi Rohit (1/19). Although wicketless, Sakuna Karunarathna built the pressure, conceding only 8 runs from his 4 overs.
Thanks to the many parents who regularly support the boys and help me by scoring and umpiring, and to school leaders Fiona and Chris who gave up part of their Saturday to watch; just quietly, I think they were pretty happy to get one over MAGS!
