Year 10 Leadership is in Action!

Having reached the Pinnacles, our intrepid hikers enjoyed the stunning views and scenery of the Coromandel Peninsula Ka pai tō mahi, awesome mahi whanau!

"I have recently attended the LIA camp to the pinnacles. It was an amazing opportunity which I am very glad I was a part of. I spent two days with great people that were very encouraging and they were willing to help whenever needed. As well as my LIA class, there were six exchange students from all around the world that came with us. They were lovely and talkative people and I became close with a few over the trip. The hike up wasn’t that enjoyable in some parts, but it was worth it for the fascinating view from the top of the Pinnacles. Overall I think it was a great opportunity that people should take as it was an amazing experience." - Year 10 LIA student Paige Mackey

Year 10 Leadership in Action students will have the opportunity to practise the learning they have accumulated in real life experiences - as part of the term 4 LIA Camps, starting next week!

  • LIA Camp 1: 6th & 7th November (completed)
  • LIA Camp 2: 13th & 14th November
  • LIA Camp 3: 21st & 22nd November

Please contact Teachers in Charge: Deputy Principal Elaine Webb and Year 10 Dean Matt Ollerenshaw for more information.

Leadership in Action students will take part in a two-day camp, hiking for up to 4-6 hours hiking each day as part of their Duke of Edinburgh Bronze Award, and will navigate in groups to The Pinnacles Hut, where they will cook group dinner, breakfast and lunch. Students will put into practise the learning they have around Navigation, Bushcraft and Tramping as part of their class learnings.

Leadership In Action promotes students' leadership and decision-making abilities in a variety of activities designed to challenge them mentally, emotionally and physically.

Students will be assessed on how well they demonstrate leadership in action, which will include establishing personal goals and plans, managing projects, and setting high personal standards.

Pre-requisites to take part in the Leadership in Action course include being interested in the outdoors and having a commitment to developing leadership potential.
